Today we discussed adding and subtracting integers. We learned through discovery using integer tiles. The children analyzed patterns and came up with the rules. If you need more help with understanding, you can go to http://coolmath.com/prealgebra/08-signed-numbers-integers/index.html and this will give explanation using a number line. You can also pull up youtube tutorials or also go onto the county library website, www.jpl.coj.net for free online tutoring. You have the world at your fingertips, use it. :)
Homework: Complete workbook pgs. 1-2B and D, front and back - due Friday. This will be your first homework grade.
Also, continue working on the Integer folder in Odyssey, which is due Monday, 9/12.
Enjoy your evening.

Another great day! Today (B Day students) we went over the quadrant plane, plotting and identifying coordinate points and how to evaluate absolute value. The children completed an exit slip to show their understanding of the concepts taught.

The first week of 6th grade is over!!!! Way to go!!! It was an awesome week and I am truly going to enjoy this year. The children are wonderful!
Yes we have homework- Work on the Decimal Folder for Odyssey. The assignments in this folder need to be completed by midnight Friday, September 12th. Please work on Odyssey daily so you won't have to rush through the folder at the end. Also, it will help you in class because as we are learning about decimals, you will be making connections with Odyssey.
If you are having issues logging onto Odyssey at home, feel free to use the computer lab starting Monday morning at 7:05.
Have a wonderful weekend and remember Monday is "B" day.

Again, a wonderful day. My "B" day students went to the computer lab today as well. They too caught on easily. Please refer to the previous post to see how to log onto Odyssey from home.
Homework: Complete at least 2 assignments on Odyssey (you can do more, which is highly recommended). If you have any issues with logging in please have your parent write a note.
All of you are doing a great job with the transition into middle school. Your first week is almost over, did you think this time would ever come? :)

Today the children went to the computer lab. They caught on quickly and did a really good job of following directions. We began working on Odyssey, which is a technology resource we use with the children to help them be successful and mastering the standards.
Homework: Finish the assessment for Big Idea 1 if you did not in class. Also, complete at least 2 assignments. Please let me know if you are having any issues signing into Odyssey at home.

Your first day of 6th grade is over!!!! I will say you did great today! Remember that each day will get better. I am sure you are exhausted, but please reflect on today and go through your items and try to organize yourself. It will take time, but you will benefit from the organization and in return have a successful 6th grade year.
Homework:
All students - have parents fill out all the paperwork in the manilla folder you received during homeroom. Please return those items asap.
Math students - read over the curriculum paper with your parents and fill out the Student Info Sheet - return Wednesday.
I want to thank everyone that brought their supplies today, not only your personal supplies, but the homeroom supplies as well. If you have not yet purchased your supplies for math, please have them no later than Friday. Again, being prepared with help with you being successful.
Enjoy your afternoon and we will see you tomorrow morning!!!
