Today my A day students took a test on Module D, which encompassed ratios, rates, unit rates, comparing ratio and rates and solving ratio problems. The grades are up for 1st and 2nd period. We will be recycling the test on Wednesday.

Attention parents: Please check your child's planner and grade portal occaisionally to make sure they are keeping up with all of their assignments. My grades are upto date and the students will be receiving progress reports on Wednesday (please ask for them). During this time of year, historically children faulter and need a reminder of staying focussed. Thank you in advance for your support.

To correct the pre-test, check to see all of the ones that you had gotten incorrect. Correct the problem by showing all of your work on a seperate piece of paper. It is not acceptable to just change the letter answer. Remember many of the problems are multi-step.

If you guessed on a problem that you did get correct, go back and redo those questions as well. Parents- students have written on their reflection their thoughts on each questions, so it should state why they were confident or unsure on every problem.

Attention Parents: In all classes we are discussing ratios, rates and unit rates. We just finished finding percent of a number involving tax, tip and discounts in MJ1 Advanced (A day students) and we will begin percents in MJ2 Advanced (B day students) The following real life experiences will help the math become real for my students, so please discuss with your child the following while going about your day and running errands. It will definitely help!

While shopping please discuss with your child discounts, tax and tip. Have your child estimate how much the tip will be at dinner, how much a piece of clothing will cost with the percent off, and how much your total bill will be after tax. Let them look at the receipt, so they see how the total came to be.
Also, at the grocery store, talk about the unit price and comparison shopping. This will make math real for them.
I know many of us use our bank cards to pay for items, but try to pay with cash sometimes and have your child listen, watch and learn when you are shopping. This will help tremendously with their understanding. Thank you for your support!!

September 28th the new Module B folder was assigned. It is due tomorrow when I run the reports in the morning. Looking at the reports tonight, many students have not finished. I assign Odyssey to go along with what is being taught in class and helps the students make connections and helps with understanding and retention of the standards and concepts being taught in class.
The Module B test on fractions will be on Tuesday, Oct. 18th, and it would be helpful to have the students work on the Module B folder to ensure understanding and mastery of the standards that are taught in class.

Helpful hints in completing assignments in Odyssey:
1. Have your notebook beside you and use your class notes.
2. Take notes while listening to the lesson.
3. Work out the problems on paper or a whiteboard.
4. While taking the quizzes, use the notes and examples you completed during the lesson.
5. Any work or notes written, place in your notebook.

FYI - test grades may affect your grade. Periods 1-3 will be retaking the test on Module A - All operations on Decimals after we complete Module B on fractions. Please review and practice decimals along with fractions. I will also be reviewing in class as well.

Periods 1-3 = Fraction test will be on October 18th. We will finish up fractions this week. Also, we will review decimals on the 20th and retake the test on the 24th - so please keep on studying.

Today, "A" day, the students took their test on our first Module involving decimals. Please check the grade portal for the grade. A handful of students did not finish so if there is no grade, they did not finish. I am still in the process of grading 3rd period.

Attention Parents: Progress reports go out Friday, however they will not have either A day students' or B day students' test grades. So depending on their test grade, your child's grade may change and this grade will reflect more of what they are comprehending in class.

The only homework is Odyssey: work on Big Idea I until I add the new folder.

Today we reviewed for the test by correcting the baseline test, as well as going over their homework. Students should be studying for their first test on Thursday (A day students).
Homework: A day: complete Practice Test pg 80 on the online book. Every student logged into the online book and accessed pg 80 so there should not be any confusion.

B-Day students - just a friendly reminder that your test is tomorrow. So you should be studying and preparing. Also, complete the whole study guide through the online book pgs 68-71. It is a good review.

Parents: Please make sure your child is showing all of their work in an organized and neat manner. I am trying to "Be Proactive" and teach them good study and work habits now, so later they will be self sufficient and well organized. Thank you in advance for your support.

Today was the last day of Benchmark testing. We will be back to normal tomorrow. Attention Parents: The grade portal is up to date. Please check it often to see how your child is doing. As of right now, we have had 2 hw/cw assignments and 1 Odyssey assignment. Today, Friday, Monday and Tuesday we are taking the Duval County Benchmark. Session I this week and Session II next week. I checked homework, but we will not go over it until Wednesday of next week.

Make sure you are finishing up your Odyssey folders that have been assigned. My "A" day students are working on the "Decimal Review 11/12" folder and my "B" day students are working in the "Module A Integer" folder. Both of which are due on Monday 9/12. I have been giving the children daily updates on who has completed their folder and who is lagging behind, so the children are well aware of their status of completion.

Today was a busy day. We reviewed adding/subtracting decimals. Dug deeper into multiplying decimals. Corrected our first page of our baseline test, and worked on practice problems.

Today we discussed adding and subtracting integers. We learned through discovery using integer tiles. The children analyzed patterns and came up with the rules. You can also pull up youtube tutorials or also go onto the county library website, www.jpl.coj.net for free online tutoring. You have the world at your fingertips, use it. :)

The first week of 6th grade is over!!!! Way to go!!! It was an awesome week and I am truly going to enjoy this year. The children are wonderful!

Yes we have homework- Work on the Decimal Folder for Odyssey. The assignments in this folder need to be completed by midnight Friday, September 12th. Please work on Odyssey daily so you won't have to rush through the folder at the end. Also, it will help you in class because as we are learning about decimals, you will be making connections with Odyssey.
If you are having issues logging onto Odyssey at home, feel free to use the computer lab starting Monday morning at 7:05.

Today the children went to the computer lab. They caught on quickly and did a really good job of following directions. We began working on Odyssey, which is a technology resource we use with the children to help them be successful and mastering the standards.

Your first day of 6th grade is over!!!! I will say you did great today! Remember that each day will get better. I am sure you are exhausted, but please reflect on today and go through your items and try to organize yourself. It will take time, but you will benefit from the organization and in return have a successful 6th grade year.

The stress of the EOC is over. These last couple of days prior to the Final Exam we will review.

Also, Mrs. Hayden stated that there are a few more spots available for the EPCOT trip, so if you want to go and have not turned in your money as of yet, get with Mrs. Hayden.

We will be having a 6th grade Celebration on Monday, June 6th. We will be having fun outside first thing in the morning, then head inside to the cafeteria for an informal awards ceremony and lunch.
